Welcome to Fall!

The Breda Community Club is entering a busy time of the year. With fall, brings a lot of our activities, and planning for next year.

We recently held our 1st Chili Standoff, and from all reports, the event will be held again next year. Lots of visiting and meeting new people was done, and everyone enjoyed the evening. We had 9 contestants, and no two entries were alike! Lots of ideas and suggestions, so we will try this again next year. Special thanks to all the wonderful bakers out there that donated bars – they were delicious! Thanks to goes to our wonderful helpers – we could never have pulled this off with out your help – Bob and Dorothy Heisterkamp, Leonard and Jean Grote, Mary Kay Uhlenkamp, Kim Imwiehe, Joyce Buelt, Rick Lucas, Roger Ludwig, our inmates from Rockwell City, Tim Fitzpatrick and Nick ViIvascu, our judges, all of our entries in the contest – John Wilson, Kim Imwiehe, Greg Imwiehe, Kevin Hoffman, Mark Ludwig, Norma Kennebeck, and Carl Bohm and to all of you who came to eat – Thank you so much!

Our Farmer’s Market was again a huge success this past fall. We raised over $1000. At our recent board meeting, it was suggested that we take that money and put it towards the refurbishing of the basketball courts in the park, and that we would keep the money from the last market, which was $283, for the purchase of flowers for our planters and pots next spring, as there should be some money left from donations and our grant to help complete that project.

Community Club dues are now due. Business dues are $30, couples are $15 and singles are $7.50. You can send them to PO Box 51, Breda, or drop them off at City Hall. Forms will be mailed out shortly to all current members and those expressing an interest in becoming members.

We are preparing for our Holiday Open House and Craft Show. We have several new crafters and vendors this year – you will be able to do a lot of your Christmas shopping at the show! It will be held on Sunday, November 15th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will have crafters, vendors, Festival of Trees, raffles, door prizes and a food stand with carryouts available. We will also be serving rolls and coffee after the 9 a.m. Mass at St. Bernard’s. Free admission – so come out and take a look and get yourself into the holiday spirit!

The Old Fashioned Christmas will be held on December 6th at the Breda Shelterhouse from 2 – 4 p.m. Santa will be there to visit with the children, take their Christmas wish letters, give them a little gift, and the kids and adults will be able to take horse drawn rides and sing Christmas carols. Hot chocolate, coffee, cookies and bars will be served. All Commnity Club members are asked to please donate a dozen cookies or bars for the day’s events.

Community Club Christmas party will be held on Sunday, December 6th at Red’s Place. Come and enjoy an evening of fun, good food, music, visiting and maybe a few surprises! Election of officers takes place at this event. Food is provided and a cash bar.

New for next spring will be a Pillow Cleaning Day. We have contacted the company and will be notified when the date will be later on this year. So – if you have pillows that you want cleaned and may be have new ticking put on – please remember us – and we will keep you informed of the upcoming date.

The Telephone Books are at the printer as we write this. They will be sent to everyone whose name is in the book, and the extras will be for sale. Watch The Breda News for more information on this.

Other items that were discussed at our meeting Monday evening was restarting the Breda Bucks program, having Movies in the Park, the Welcome Wagon Bags and the Haunted House.

If you have ideas that we could look at to bring our community together, please talk to one of us, as we can use new ideas all the time.
