Breda is located in the Carroll Community School District. Parents have the option of enrolling their children at Carroll Community School (public) or Kuemper Catholic School (private). Both school systems have a good working relationship and have a long-established shared bussing program. Rural students are picked up at home and taken to Breda. From there, students of different ages are divided into three separate buses and transported to whichever public or private school building they attend.
Early childhood developmental education, along with a 3-year-old preschool program, is provided by the Breda Day Care Center. As a licensed child care facility, the Breda Day Care Center has been in operation since 1990. In 2017 the center added a 3-year-old preschool program to its offerings. The center's mission is "to provide your child with happy social and group-play, together with a variety of learning experiences, allowing each child to develop individually, in the areas of social, intellectual, emotional and physical development." Furthermore, the Breda Day Care Center believes that joy in learning is shared together in a loving environment, while at the same time encouraging a positive attitude toward learning, creativity, and curiosity. The Breda Day Care Center incorporates age-appropriate curriculum that consists of creative arts, music, cooking, science, dramatic play, literacy activities, school readiness activities, field trips, visitors and more. The Breda Day Care Center accepts enrollment of children between the ages of two weeks and 10 years of age. The center's Director is Chelsey Sapp. For more information, call 712-673-KIDS.
Breda was home to grade school through high school education for many decades. While the High School closed its doors in 1979 to merge with Kuemper, the grade school through 8th grade continued in Breda until 2003. At that point, Christ the King officially combined with the Holy Spirit Center and St. Lawrence school - part of the Kuemper Catholic school system in Carroll.
Today, the former St. Bernard High School building still stands next to St. Bernard Catholic Church. Many community activities are held there, and the facility is available for rental. For more information about rental opportunities, click here.
